This rule isn\u2019t selective \u2013 it works on all messages, including the ones that meet the set delivery conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For you to get started with Outlook Delay Delivery:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to the Rules Wizard and click New rule.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check at the bottom of the first Rules Wizard screen. From that screen, select Apply rule on messages I send.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can then select all the conditions you want. Once you are satisfied, then click Next to apply the conditions to all messages you send.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Still, at the Rules Wizard, head to the bottom of the Actions list and check defer delivery by a number of minutes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">(See the image below)<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saleshandy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Outlook-delay-delivery-31.png\" alt=\"Outlook delay delivery 3\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The ensuing window brings up the \u201ca number of minutes\u201d link. Click that link to select the number of minutes you wanted to hold the messages in.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proceed to Next if you still have more exceptions you might want to set up, enter the name of your rule.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hit Finish to finalize the rule.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Using \u201cDo Not Deliver Before\u201d feature<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If you hate defining \u2018time to send rules\u201d every time,&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.saleshandy.com\/blog\/create-distribution-list-outlook\/\" target=\"_blank\">Outlook gives<\/a>&nbsp;you a \u201cDo Not Deliver Before\u201d feature. So that with this one, you can schedule when the email will be sent. For Office 2000 and above, clicking Options dialog on the top ribbon will take you to \u201cDo Not Deliver Before\u201d option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saleshandy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/outlook-delay-delivery-4.png\" alt=\"Outlook delay delivery 4\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saleshandy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Outlook-delay-delivery-12.png\" alt=\"Outlook delay delivery 12\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>But always make sure you understand how this feature works. Test, test, and test these features before using it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why do you need to test it beforehand? It helps prevent possible \u2018delayed send\u2019 because of conflict in timing. After testing it, you will establish if your email server uses the time you sent it to the Outbox or when Outlook actually sent the message to the SMPT server.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"whathappens\"><span id=\"What-happens-when-the-delivery-time-is-reached\">What happens when the delivery time is reached?<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Does outlook have to be open to sending a delayed message? Absolutely. When your scheduled delivery time is reached, Outlook initiates delivery for the messages stored in Outbox folder. It works as if you had clicked the Send button right then. However, an&nbsp;average Outlook feature has to grapple with these challenges:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The catastrophe of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saleshandy.com\/blog\/out-of-office-message\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">delaying messages<\/a>\u00a0more than few more days<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Other than sending the message, there will be no trace of your clicking Send earlier than that time. Since some Outlook versions don\u2019t use the date they handed the message to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saleshandy.com\/smtp\/outlook-smtp-settings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SMTP<\/a>&nbsp;server, which means if you use sort by sent date view, you might miss the email. Why is it a red flag? In this era, when marketers are flooding our inbox with emails, it\u2019s so easy for your message to \u2018disappear\u2019. That might mean a lost opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Outlook delayed delivery with outlook closed or offline<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>When using the feature your email stays in the Outbox on your computer. The message stays there waiting for the delivery scheduled time. For Outlook to successfully send the messages as planned, you have to keep your computer logged in and Outlook open to send it. Outlook will fire off your email next time you launch it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The same thing still happens when working offline. Outlook won\u2019t send your email at the scheduled time of delivery. Instead, it will fail and then show an error. However, Outlook will send the message as soon as the internet is connected again. To re-initiate transfer, use the Send All command. Unfortunately, it won\u2019t be delivered when you wanted it to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just because you don\u2019t risk failing to send the email, Outlook will pop up a cautionary prompt to remind you about the messages scheduled for later sending every time you try to close Outlook.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saleshandy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/outlook-delay-delivery-4.jpg\" alt=\"outlook delay delivery 4\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span id=\"Summing-it-up\">Summing it up\u2026<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have news that you want to share with your recipients at a later date, Outlook will do that by delay delivery but for this, your Outlook application needs to be open and connected with the internet all the time.
