Gmail’s SMTP server lets you send mail securely from anywhere — you just need the right server, port, and authentication settings.

On this page, you’ll get copy-paste Gmail SMTP settings, step-by-step setup instructions, and quick fixes for common errors — so you can start sending in minutes.

How to Set Up Gmail SMTP

Once you have the Gmail SMTP server details, it only takes a few minutes to connect Gmail with your email client, CRM, or web app.
Here’s the process to do it:

  • For Email Clients
  • For Web Apps or CRMs

For Email Clients

  1. Open your email client’s Account Settings.
  2. Choose Add New Account or Edit Account (for an existing Gmail setup).
  3. Enter your full Gmail address as the Username.
  4. Paste the Gmail SMTP server details:
    • Server: smtp.gmail.com
    • Port: 587 (TLS) or 465 (SSL)
    • Authentication: ON
  5. Use your App Password (not your normal Gmail password).
  6. Save and send a test email.

For Web Apps or CRMs

  1. Go to your app’s Email / SMTP Settings section.
  2. Enter the Gmail SMTP server details from the table above.
  3. Use App Password for authentication.
  4. Select encryption type (TLS for 587, SSL for 465).
  5. Save settings and run a test email.

If this sounds too technical for you, I would suggest that you connect Gmail to Saleshandy in one click – no ports, no App Password setup, and no risk of misconfiguration.

Common Gmail SMTP Errors (And How to Fix Them Fast)

Even with the right Gmail SMTP settings, you might run into errors. Here’s how to solve the most common ones:

Relaying DeniedIP or domain not authorized to send via GmailJust ensure that you’re logged in with the correct account and SMTP server

Common Gmail SMTP Errors (And How to Fix Them Fast)

Gmail no longer accepts your normal account password for SMTP connections for less secure app access.
To send emails through Gmail’s SMTP server, you must generate an App Password (a special 16-character password) that works with email clients, CRMs, and apps.
Here’s how you can create an app password:

  1. Sign in to your Gmail account.
  2. Go to Google Account → Security.
  3. Under Signing in to Google, enable 2-Step Verification (if not already enabled).
  4. Once enabled, click App Passwords (or search for “App Passwords (security)” in the top bar).
  5. Choose the app (e.g., Mail) and device, or select Other and type a name.
  6. Click Generate and copy the 16-character password shown.
  7. Use this App Password in your SMTP settings instead of your Gmail login password.

Note: You can revoke an App Password anytime from your Google Account if you stop using that app or service.

Gmail SMTP Sending Limits & Quotas

If you’re using Gmail’s built-in SMTP for sending emails, you can’t just blast out hundreds or thousands in one go. Google enforces strict daily limits to prevent spam abuse — and once you hit them, you’re locked out until the next 24-hour cycle.

Here’s the breakdown:

Account TypeDaily Sending LimitPer Message Recipient LimitReset Cycle
Free Gmail500 emails/day500 recipients24 hours from first send
Google Workspace (Paid)2,000 emails/day2,000 recipients24 hours from first send

Why Not Just Use Saleshandy SMTP With Gmail?

If you’re planning to use Gmail’s SMTP for cold email, then let me warn you.

Google is not built for high-volume sending.

It’s designed for personal or light business use, not for bulk outreach campaigns.

If you exceed these limits, Gmail will temporarily lock your account for 24 hours (sometimes longer).

If this happens repeatedly, your domain can be flagged, leading to deliverability issues even when you’re under the limit.

If you want to avoid this issue, then you can use Saleshandy to send cold emails from your email accounts.
